How long will Magento 1 continue to be supported?

Recently, there are some rumors that show that Magento 1 will not be supported and Magento forces all users to upgrade to Magento 2. That makes many users concern because upgrading to Magento 2 would have put a lot of cost and development time on the shoulders of website owners around the world who would have had to struggle to upgrade.

However, Jonathan Pollard, CEO of Codisto confirmed that Magento 1 would be supported for foreseeable future.

Jason Woosley, SVP Products & Technology in Magento platform said “Magento stands behind our customers and will never leave a customer behind – you can rest assured that we have your back at every turn. Magento 1 has been and will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future. We have no intention of denying access to our world-class software and know your business relies on Magento to drive growth and differentiation for your brand.”

Magento also points out that Magento 2 is a superior product offering capabilities that improve site performance, provide better visibility into business results, and drive differentiated omnichannel commerce experiences. Magento is confident that every merchant will benefit from moving to Magento 2 and looks forward to see its users upgrade when the time is right for them.

To help users have time to prepare, Magento have committed to a minimum 18-month notice period before they make any changes to support. Therefore if you are running your business at Magento 1, you still have at least a year and a half before you need to upgrade you website to Magento 2.

Don’t worry! You still have enough time to prepare for everything to upgrade to Magento 2.
